Week 4 in Room 10

This week started off with a fabulous trip to the Suter to create art works inspired by the Dusky Sounds, Tamatea exhibition. Remember there is no charge to visit the Suter Gallery so please take the opportunity to visit with your child and let them teach you about the art works.

Still focusing on art, we have also been super busy working on our Laurel Birch style cat collages for the school calendar art fundraiser. These images will make great calendars, cards and diary covers. Order envelopes will be coming home this week.

We also worked on ways to improve our illustrations to accompany our weekly published writing stories. We hope you noticed how we had developed our drawings of people this week.
In phonics we have been learning about Magic 'e' . Here you can see how Magic 'e' has changed the word 'cap' into 'cape' by putting its magic onto its vowel friend 'a' and making it say its name rather than its sound. Magic 'e' makes no sound at all because it is magic!
In maths we have been warming up by keeping fit to 100...one of our favourite maths starters.
This week in our 'Animal' inquiry we have been learning about invertebrates and vertebrates . In the next few weeks we will look at each of the 5 vertebrate groups: mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. We are hoping to bring in pictures of these from home to add to our display.
As part of this inquiry we had a discussion about whether or not a flower is still alive after being cut and put into a vase. We have put some flowers into coloured water to see what will happen and if we can answer this question.

What are we learning in Week 5 Term 3

Letter Sounds: medial vowel 'e' as in 'net' and 'hen'
Tricky Words: 'you' and 'they'
Writing:  recounts and information reports
Maths:Measurement: Time, basic facts to 10
P.E.: No Child Left Inside and skipping
Maori: colours, numbers, waiata
Inquiry Theme: Animals: Mammals
Art: Elmer Collage
ICT: Quiver app: New Zealand Animals
