Week 4 Term 2

Being a good friend is something that we talk about daily in Room 10 but last week we had special focus as part of our participation in Bully Free Week NZ. We coloured in posters to put around the school, had a poem focusing on friendship.......
........and enjoyed singing the Bully Free Zone song.

In maths this week we have been learning about before and after numbers and.......
                                            .............ordering numbers to 20.
In No Child Left Inside we were thinking about using our big 'w' hands to catch a ball.

Mmmmm...not as easy as it looked  in the demonstration but we all had a good 'I can' attitude and kept trying..well done Room 10!

We also had a very interesting visitor appear outside our classroom..what do you think it was? Scroll down to the answer after our final photo.

The week ended with our school Rogaine even and mini gala which was enjoyed by many. Thank you to all the Room 10 families that came along to support this event.
Our mystery visitor was a WETA!!!!!!!

Week 3 Term 2

As colds and sniffles seem to be on the increase we have been learning about how important it is to wash our hands after sneezing or coughing into them or blowing our noses. We all wet our hands, then Tracy put some glitter on her hands and we shook hands with each other. We all ended up with glitter that had passed from one person to another...just like germs can. Why not try out this experiment at home to also help brothers and sisters learn about the importance of hand washing.
We have been thinking about Autumn and collected leaves to use as part of our Art focus on 'printing'. We will be displaying our work along with some written descriptions of Autumn later this week.

News groups are going well...we loved this recycled dragon!
Despite the wet weather on Wednesday we were able to have a fun hockey lesson..definitely some budding talent on show from Room 10, well done.

In maths with Sam we have started our topic on measurement. This week we were learning about height.

In number work we have been looking at number patterns using all the different ways to make 10.
On Friday with our Room 5 buddies we drew around each other to make chalk characters.
I particularly liked this pirate..he looks pretty scary.
We had a visit from some Enviro Agents this week to look at how much non-recyclable packing was in our lunch boxes. We found some good ideas for environmentally friendly packaging. Lets see if we can reduce our waste next week.

...and of course there was heaps of creative thinking going on during Play Based Learning time.

Week 2 Term 2

Welcome to our Week 2 blog. As you can see our Pirate focus is inspiring everyone's imagination, although those sharks looked a bit too realistic!!

This week in music we have been putting our learning about "keeping a beat" into practice with some percussion instruments..great work from our Room 10 orchestra.

In maths we have been exploring all the different ways of making 10 and learning to record these sums ourselves. Watch out for some more ideas in this coming week.

Friday saw rather a lot of unusual hair styles. ...a great way to raise money for Ronald McDonald House.

This week we celebrated our  first of our Room 10 friend who has turned 6.

We learnt about mixing primary and secondary colours in art using our hands to mix and print. Take a look at the fun we had helping each other.

We were all very proud of our Mother's Day cards that we made using a finger printing method. You can read our messages about our mums by checking out our most recent posts on the Room 10 Kidzstuff blog...just click on the link to the right of this blog post.
